I joined Meta as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in August 2022. There, I am working part of the Health Tech Engineering team.
Previous to Meta, I have been working at Koa Health as Head of Digital Phenotyping for over three years, a company that spun out of Telefonica’s Innovation unit in November 2020. I was managing the Digital Phenotyping research team and focusing on research methods for capturing user behaviour from active/passive sensing data. Previous to Koa, I was a principal investigator and team lead at IBM Ireland for over three years, mainly focusing on patents, publications and funding. During my time at IBM, I was lecturing at NCI courses related to databases and big data part of the Higher Diploma programmes.I completed my PhD at University College Dublin, done in collaboration with IBM Ireland, where I focused on analyzing data from relational databases and scaling it up or down while maintaining representativeness or at fast speed. I completed my Bachelor in Computer Science and Engineering from "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania . To date, I have published over 25 publications in top venues, such as Ubicomp, PAKDD, ECML-PKDD, ICTAI, ACM TIST, and have filed over 20 patents.
I draw my experience from a mix of international programmes from Europe — Erasmus at UPM Spain, a summer research internship at DCU Ireland, a brief BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) summer school in Poland, PhD at UCD Ireland — to South America — a one year AIESEC student placement as a software developer in a start-up company in Brazil.
